Reduced switching time from 30 minutes to 10 msec in the event of a failure, enabling us to respond to increased traffic
What is an "optical switch"?
Internet Multifeed Co., Ltd. provides public time information services and high-quality IPv6 Internet connection functions, including the Multifeed service, which was launched in 1997 as a pioneer of the Internet data center (iDC) business in Japan. We provide essential infrastructure for today's Internet society, such as transix services.
In particular, the Internet Interconnection (IX) service "JPNAP" provides a place where Internet service providers such as ISPs (Internet Service Providers), ICPs (Internet Contents Providers), and CATV can connect to each other. It boasts the largest traffic volume in the world.
The company has introduced the optical switch unit "NSW series" jointly developed with NTT-AT in the network supporting "JPNAP".
We asked Mr. Yuya Yoshida, Deputy General Manager (at that time) of the Engineering Department of Internet Multifeed Co., Ltd., about the introduction of the optical switch unit and the details of the joint development.
